The birth of Violet went very smooth! Nana and Papa drove all day on March 16 and got to our house at 12:30 AM. Bryce and I drove to the hospital at 5:30 AM on March 17 to be induced. We walked into our hospital room and saw that our nurse, Cathy, was the exact same nurse that helped deliver Rex. She was so nice and took great care of us. I was started on Pitocin at 6:30 AM. Bryce was really happy that it was the first day of March Madness for the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Around 9 AM, I started into active labor and was feeling intense pain! I tried to go as long as I could without an epidural, but I was getting to the point that I was out of breath and on the verge of crying because it was so painful. I asked for an epidural, but the anesthesiologist was busy with another patient. I had to wait 45 minutes until the doctor came in. I was so grateful to see the doctor walk through our door at 10:30 to give me an epidural. He could tell how much pain I was in, and did a tremendous job. It was the best epidural I have had yet. After the epidural kicked in, life was much better after that! For the next 3 hours Bryce and I watched the basketball tournament, ate popsicles, and visited with the nurse and resident. Around 1:45 I started to feel lots of pressure and I knew our baby girl was going to be here soon. The doctor and nurses came in and got everything ready to go. I gave one big push and baby Violet was almost here. I breathed in and gave one more push and Violet came rolling out at 2:05 PM! I remember seeing my entire stomach roll down and collapse as Violet came out. The doctor placed Violet on my chest right away, and we awed over our beautiful baby girl. The moment they placed her in my arms, I knew her name was Violet Mae. I have had a strong feeling from the moment I knew we were having a girl, that this should be her name. But once they placed her in my arms, it was confirmed. Violet didn't cry much when she came out. She had a calm, peaceful demeanor and she sweetly cuddled with Bryce and I. She was perfect!
Later that day, Nana and Papa brought Naomi and Rex to meet their new sister. They were both really sweet and kind to Violet. Naomi was interested in Violet, but didn't pay too much attention because Nana and Papa had bought her a new Princess Rapunzel toy set. Rexy was very intrigued and just stared at Violet in awe. It was so cute to see them interact with her. It was an incredible day. Bryce and I are so grateful Heavenly Father sent us such a beautiful angel. She couldn't be more perfect, and we love our baby Violet with all our hearts.
